We will all laugh at gilded butterflies

First project - this dress was inspired by Islamic and Gothic architecture which are shown through the rich fabrics and patterns.
I used subtraction pattern cutting to make the design more modern to ensure it did not look too traditional or costume inspired, and more a high fashion piece.

Instant Glamour

Shaggy cuts and shrugs this season give this winter a classic yet rock and roll edge.

This will give any outfit an instant glamour hit and you will be right on trend, plus nothing will keep you warmer!

There is a big debate about real and faux fur and both have been used on the catwalk this season, I will personally be supporting the faux fur designers such as Lavin, Balmain and Karl Lagerfeld who did some beautiful coats for their Spring/Summer 2011 collections.
Grey, white and black are bang on trend for the catwalk and are my personal favourite however Chanel was seen to be have browns and beiges in their collections which had an arctic feel to them, fur was woven into brown tweeds and beautifully framed the leather jackets, These gorgeous fur coats were paired with intense embroidery and ruffle work and framed with beaded crystals.

Balmain and Cavalli

Rocker Chic!

Christophe Decarnin did the thing he does best - rocker chic!
Balmain's Spring/Summer 2011 collection was full of leather biker jackets, jeans with washed and torn finishes, complete with studd and safety pins in either their classic black or the red, white and blue of the American flag.
There is a definite American theme which featured on love-worn holey T-shirts worn with demin and hot pants.
As always the collection was perfectly executed with silver sequins, outsized tux jackets and pinned raw tops an boots.
This season is all about giled brocase and I would look no further than Balmain for some serious opulence!

SASS AND BIDE

EVERYTHING about Sass and Bides Spring/Summer 2011 collection is beautiful.

The first look was a black and white intricate digital print vest and harem combination worn with a grey bolero and slouchy ankle boots, there is a gorgeous mixture of hard and soft detailing to the collection with soft prints and cuts paired with nipped in waist lines and molded copper belts.

Along with the first pieces there were baby pink and white bubble prints which appear in silver with fringes shoulder pieces.

My personal favorite is the blood red piece with the tier raffier layers and the contrast of the textured feathered tops and the synched in metal waist belts.

I have become inspired by the knotting, wrapping and the fresh colour pallet of khaki, melon, cream and copper.

illustrations

Here are some illustrations from our visual studies project, here are my final peices that i did for the module, they are based on volume and different ways that can be presented. I enjoyed using different types of media such as water colour, charcoal, textures with different papaers and protone pens.

I took alot of inspiration from Rene Gruau as i went to his exhibition in London which was so inspirational. some of his work is very simple yet its so effective and really gets the message across of what Dior the brand stands for which is classic, sophisticated, sexy and luxurious. Not only did it sell beautiful clothes and purfume it sells its customers a lifestyle.
Alot of inspiration also came from my trip to Paris where I saw many local artists and illustrators, everything i saw was extremely innovative and new, especially with the first illistration of the dripping face and watercolours this main inspiration came from an illustrator named Rebecca Bournegault who does many illustrations for Vogue and Elle magazine.
